Wabash College Students Intern with Innovative IT Firm

This is a press release from Sara Palmer, senior technical writer at Leonard-McDowell.

Leonard-McDowell, an Indianapolis-based IT and business development firm, welcomes two bright new interns from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind.

“Hiring interns injects fresh ideas not only into our company, but also into our clients’ companies,” said Frank Leonard, managing partner of Leonard-McDowell and 1986 graduate of Wabash College. “We give them the professional experiences they need to have their resumes stand out and they give us a different perspective on business, technology and culture.”

Tyler Owensby, a junior majoring in economics, brings a strong work ethic and a forward-thinking approach to his position as a business development and sales intern. His strengths pull from his natural ability to analyze, minimize and eliminate risk.

“I enjoy evaluating business practices and indicating the areas that can be made more effective to reduce risk,” Owensby said. “No matter what industry you are involved in, everyone needs to minimize their risk.”

“All businesses can benefit from interns,” Leonard said. “They are passionate about their professions and are eager to learn on the job. We are happy to bolster their experience in return for their diverse skill sets.”

Owensby will promote partners and services such as Mediprocity, a HIPAA compliant, encrypted text messaging service for doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers.

“We’re very excited to see what Tyler can do,” Leonard said. “He has a lot of experience, particularly for someone still in college. Tyler will help our clients target the most effective solutions for their specific needs. He has a lot of energy and we expect to see him go far.”

Austin Puckett, a junior political science major, will help companies advance their technology into the 21st Century as a sales intern for Leonard-McDowell. He will match clients with products and services that best suit their needs and budget. He is focused on analyzing the cause and effect of emerging technologies, new legislation and fluctuating markets to help companies reduce risk and increase rewards.

“I do a lot of research,” Puckett said. “Using that background information helps me form strategies that adapt to any situation. Since I am able to adapt, it is easy for me to help clients adapt to the changing world of business and technology.”

Puckett will assist Leonard-McDowell in promoting services like SmartSearch, a digital document management system that streamlines workflow to creative more efficient and effective offices.

“Austin is a great guy,” Leonard said. “He is very friendly and easy going, perfect qualities for sales professionals. His personality is outshined only by his knowledge and critical thinking skills. We are confident Austin will bring innovative, diverse options to our clients.”

In today’s extremely competitive job market, internships are the distinguishing feature among most college graduates. For Leonard-McDowell, these partnerships are a win-win.

“All businesses can benefit from interns,” Leonard said. “They are passionate about their professions and are eager to learn on the job. We are happy to bolster their experience in return for their diverse skill sets.”
