Indiana INTERNnet is pleased to welcome our new Assistant Director of Educator Engagement, Sally Saydshoev. She spent the past 7 years working in higher education and most recently as the director of career services at Indiana University East.
Sally is eager to meet the many educators across the state of Indiana including those in the K-12 school systems. She served with the Business Education Committee in Wayne County, Forward Wayne County Workforce Coalition, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Career Development Professionals of Indiana (CDPI). Sally has enjoyed her time working with students and is now excited for this next adventure to assist educators, employers and students developing a relationship towards talent retention and workforce development across the state.

In March, Indiana INTERNnet surveyed employers to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected their summer 2020 internships. You may view the executive summary here. Since this has been an extremely fluid situation, Indiana INTERNnet sent another survey in April to see if – and how – anything has changed.
The survey was distributed to all employers registered on IndianaINTERN.net. In addition, it was shared with employer networks by Indiana colleges/universities and economic development organizations. A total of 181 responses were received.
Forty-six percent (84 employers) revealed they completed Indiana INTERNnet’s March survey. Of those 84 employers, 62% (52 employers) said their answers had changed from the March survey.
Of those surveyed, 86% (156 employers) indicated that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were planning on hiring interns for summer 2020.

The last month has upended the way most of us live our daily lives. When this happens, most of us go back to the basics. We do what we need to do to make it through the day – and not much more. After a few weeks, however, we realize that we can establish new routines. We can do much of what we did previously, even if physically distant from one another during a stay-at-home order. We regain much of our productivity and, before we know it, we wonder why we weren’t using technology so much in the past.

Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on February 26, 2019 at the 13th Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon. Though the event is over, and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nominees’ successes.

Sally Wolf graduated from Miami University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in psychology. She completed two internships in the summer of 2018 with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development on the Youth Initiatives.

Indiana INTERNnet is hosting its first online internship fair through CareerEco on March 28! This is the prefect opportunity for employers to connect with students and hopefully fill their upcoming summer internships. What times does the fair take place?
The online internship fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST. However, your company doesn’t have to attend the entire time. Employers can indicate a specific timeframe that they’ll be available. Students can see all the registered employers’ availability so they can determine when they’d like to attend the fair to meet with their top prospects.

Indiana INTERNnet (IIN) and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) are continuing to advocate the importance of internships through the Employment Aid Readiness Network (EARN) Indiana program.
EARN Indiana is a mutually-beneficial program for employers and students. Eligible students benefit from a wide variety of positions offering competitive pay and valuable experience. These internships can be used to explore career interests, develop transferable skills, apply academic coursework to the professional world, examine career interests and earn college credit.
Employers with an approved internship can be reimbursed for up to 50% of an eligible intern’s wages. Interns can bring a fresh take to the organization and assist with backburner projects. There is also the opportunity for talent acquisition (promoting to full-time positions) and recruitment of other students.

So this got me thinking; you worked really hard last year, kept up your grades, scored a great internship, and passed your finals. So right now are you just sitting around and waiting for this rock-star internship experience to start in June? How many of you are taking the time to get ready for your internship? Now I know that you might be thinking that the whole reason you got the internship is so that YOU can learn from US, and that’s right! But I’m a firm believer that you will get more than any of your classmates out of an internship if you go in from day one with the right attitude, objectives, and research.
