Description

The Public Safety intern will be responding to medical incidents and documenting what happened in a report format, assisting in security operations and assisting the Safety and Security Department in Fair operations as needed. The majority of work will come from mid-July as setup begins through the end of the Fair. The Fair encounters incidents and injuries daily with guests, visitors, vendors and employees, and documenting the incidents in a report is necessary to accurately capture information to reflect what happened at an incident scene. Interns will learn the skills necessary to perform basic field investigations and field interviews and write an accurate and concise field report. Interns will also be assisting in the daily operations of the Safety and Security Department and T-Shirt Security during the Fair.

Responsibilities

  1. Respond to the scene of an injury or accident and conduct a basic field investigation and interview to determine the details of the incident.

  2. Work with medical personnel at the incident scene and in a first aid station to conduct a basic field investigation and interview to determine the details of the incident.

  3. Assist with on-scene response efforts and transporting family members to first aid stations and to various locations around the Fairgrounds.

  4. Write a field report on the incident and input the report into a PDF form on a computer.

  5. Work varying shifts indoors and outdoors.

  6. Interact with guests and other personnel daily and provide a high level of customer service during complex situations.

  7. Assist Fair Security with employee scheduling, transportation and supervision.

  8. Assist the Safety and Security Department with crowd management, guest services and parking conflict resolution.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Background in law enforcement or public safety preferred.

  • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Adobe Acrobat and Windows Explorer.
