Description

The Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) seeks well-qualified intern who will work closely with the BACI team and its partners in coordinating and implementing the Burmese American Oral Histories undertaken in collaborative partnership with the Indianapolis Public Libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with interviews of Burmese Americans living in Indianapolis, including documenting, recording, and managing footage of the interviews
  • Arrange transcriptions for each interview
  • Assist in constructing questionnaire for narrators, including questions about their background, traditions, and journey to the United States
  • Organize narrators’ information in order to ensure diversity in economic, geographic, religious, gender, and age demographics.
  • Assist with the organization of Phase II of the Oral Histories Project by contacting and coordinating with partner agencies and individuals
  • Other tasks and projects may include marketing activities through social media, YouTube etc. 

Qualifications

  • Junior, Senior or graduate student in Communications, Multi-media, History or related field
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, multi lingual preferred
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism, respect, and personal integrity
  • Be a team player; able to collaborate with others
  • International experience – high degree of cultural sensitivity and competence
  • Enthusiasm for BACI’s mission and strong commitment to helping disadvantaged students achieve academic success and college readiness
  • Flexibility and availability/willingness to work some weekends
  • Willing to learn and accept tasks as assigned
