GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) is a dynamic, forward-looking, and growing non-profit organization. We seek well-qualified and solutions-oriented candidates to join the Employment and Microenterprise Development Program (EMED). This position will directly support an effective implementation of the program and delivery of direct services to the community members served. Primary position functions include coordination, planning and organizing job fairs, individualized job application assistance, and case management. Other functions may include documentation, working with and supporting start-up businesses, and assisting with other EMED program functions.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Help coordinates, organizes, and promotes job fairs in partnerships with employers and other service providers.
  • Provides direct individualized employment services to community members.
  • May provide participants assistance with establishing relationships in the local business community, the general community, and churches.
  • Assists individual clients with finding competitive and sustained employment.
  • Provides individualized follow-up support to assist clients in maintaining employment. Provides frequent in-person supports during the first month of a new job and at least monthly after working steadily if desired by clients.
  • Assists individual clients in learning how their benefits will be affected by earned income. For example, refers clients for benefits planning to learn about work incentives offered by the Social Security Administration. After employment is achieved, assists with an individualized plan for reporting earnings to the Social Security Administration or other sources of benefits.
  • Helps clients think about long-term employment goals, work history, strengths, personal culture (as defined by each person), justice involvement, and other factors that relate to a current vocational goal. Completes career profile for each new client with information from the client and other sources. Updates the profile with each new job and educational experience.
  • Holds regular case management sessions with each participant to determine his/her needs relative to his/her employment or business goals.
  • Documents program activities i.e. event log, case files in a timely manner.
  • Accepts tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Attends staff and partners meetings.
  • Participates in program evaluation.

  • Enthusiasm for BACI’s mission and vision.
  • Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the Employment and Microenterprise Development team and throughout the Institute.
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism and personal integrity.
  • Flexibility and availability, including willingness to travel and work some weekends.
  • International experience desirable – high degree of cultural sensitivity and competence required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a sense of humor and a positive, solution-oriented approach.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Pass the Background Check.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) and Internet applications.
