Primary Engineering is a commercial building engineering firm with offices in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. Their focus on electrical and HVAC systems means they cover everything “inside the walls” in a commercial build. Interns at Primary Engineering are expected to turn the theory of their classroom learning into application with everyday clients. Primary Engineering is a company that encourages a curious mind, and thrives on self-starters.

Responsibilities

Intern will be assigned projects based on the needs of the company, and the skills of the intern. Duties will include:

  • Assist in the creation of design work for commercial facilities’ electrical power, lighting, and low voltage systems
  • Use CAD to incorporate design into digital form
  • Complete design calculations for lighting systems, and verify compliance with energy codes
  • Assist with the design of power distribution for commercial facilities
  • Assist with the design of low voltage systems (data, voice, fire alarm, security, sound)
  • Pick up/Drop off materials for company business to clients/partners within the city
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • How systems work as a whole from electrical engineering to mechanical engineering
  • Basic understanding of the legal process for public bidding
  • Understand photometric lighting calculations

Qualifications

  • Required:

Currently seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Field

Basic understanding of CAD and AutoCAD software

Calculus completed before internship

Good understanding of OHMS Law

Software experience: Autodesk and Office

  • Preferred:

Basic understanding of power electronics and lighting design

Computer savvy

A strong communicator (written and verbal)
