Description

The Museum Apprentice Program (MAP) and Public Events Intern will assist with the development and implementation of the Museum Apprentice Program, a  hands-on project based volunteer program for teenagers 13-18 years old.  The intern will work closely with the Public and Youth Programs Coordinator and MAP Assistant to provide the teenagers with exceptional museum learning experiences, teambuilding exercise, and career exploration opportunities. The intern will also be involved in planning and implementing the museum’s public events.

Responsibilities

Possible internship projects include:

  • Develop and create training videos for the MAP program.
  • Assist with the development of MAP curriculum and projects.
  • Plan and organize MAP meetings and teen involvement in public events and family programs.
  • Help prepare materials for meetings, MAP website, and parent/teen events.
  • Assist staff in the continued evaluation of the program by observing, implementing program changes, and submitting a summative evaluation report.
  • Help plan and develop hands-on projects including the six week MAP Summer Project.
  • Research program topics or exhibit concepts and develop activities for visitors.
  • Assist with public events by helping with setup, tear down, and activity facilitation.

Qualifications

Intern should:

  • Have completed at least one year of college.
  • Have experience working with adolescent youth in middle and high school.
  • Have an academic background in social work, education, family studies, museum studies, child development, psychology, or a related field.
  • Have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Have excellent organizational and research skills.
  • Have web researching skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Have the ability to multi-task
  • Be available Saturdays and some evenings to help facilitate meetings and programs.
  • Be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
