About Rise Up Academy

RUA was created in the summer of2010 after the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC)  was awarded a$2.7 million School Improvement Grant (SIG)  from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).  The purpose of the SIG was to transform the former Bendix
School in the SBCSC.  The SIG was awarded to increase End of Course Assessment scores,  graduation rates,  and attendance.  With the implementation of the grant,  several components needed to be addressed.  The school changed locations from the Bendix Building complex to Eggleston Elementary School.  The school hired a majority of new staff members,  including:  a new principal,  assistant principal,  guidance counselor,  social worker,  nurse,  and 10 new teachers of 16.  Lastly,
the school needed to change the way it taught students,  moving from a
traditional setting to a project/performance-based environment.  Currently RUA offers CORE 40 diplomas as well as numerous community,  trade,  post-secondary,  and life experiences.
