Description
The Afterschool Programs intern will assist with the development and/or implementation of programs and materials for the museum’s afterschool programs. The intern will work directly with children.
Responsibilities
Possible internship projects include:
- Assisting program coordinators with implementing daily lessons, projects, museum visits, library visits, and day-to-day operations for the museum’s on-site afterschool program.
- Developing and facilitating lessons and activities for students enrolled in the afterschool program.
- Planning and developing activities for family nights and neighborhood nights.
- Assisting with the evaluation efforts for the program. Could include interviewing participants, monitoring progress on projects, entering data.
- Assisting with documenting the program through videos and photographs.
- Assisting with the development of the program newsletter.
- Developing and facilitating activities for students who visit the museum on afterschool field trips.
- Developing pre- and post-visit guides for educators who bring students to the museum on afterschool field trips.
- Assisting with other department projects and events as needed.
Qualifications
Intern should:
- Have completed at least one year of college.
- Have experience working with elementary age children.
- Have an academic background in social work, education, family studies, museum studies, child development, psychology, or a related field.
- Have good oral and written communication skills.
- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Have excellent organizational and research skills.
- Have web researching skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic.
- Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
- Be available for the program hours – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6:30 p.m.
