Position Overview:  

The Dometic Internship Program is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work related to a student’s field of study or career interest. Our program gives students the opportunity to collaborate with team members, to have a meaningful project that allows you to have impact, career exploration and development, to learn new skills, and get to know other interns.   

1) Project Overview - As a manufacturing engineer intern in the Project Management Office you will work with the Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to define manufacturing strategies for regional manufacturing projects where manufacturing is being localized.  You will also assist in documentation creation, review, and correction.

2) Project Measurables - Performance will be measured by amount of work completed each week and will be discussed in weekly one-on-one sessions with the Advanced Manufacturing Engineer.

3) Anticipated output of project - (process improvement, cost reduction/elimination of waste, or increased revenue) - The anticipated outputs from this internship are process improvements and elimination of waste.

This position reports to the Director of Operations Footprint Planning. 

Responsibilities

  • Review current manufacturing strategies and assist in developing new ones for identified projects
  • Develop or edit bill of material and routing documents and will also assist in reviewing blueprints, identifying errors that must be corrected
  • Creates and updates 3D models, drawings, and related standards for the development of new products and/or maintenance of existing products
  • Performs stack up and tolerance analysis to ensure design intentions are met and design for manufacturability principles are adhered to
  • As part of this internship you should become familiar with how manufacturing processes are set-up and measured for performance and you will understand the importance of a routing and bill of material to a manufacturing process
  • As part of the internship you will also learn the importance of paying attention to details and the costs to the business when details are missed

 

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a college or university seeking a degree. The following programs are preferred: Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Solid Works 3D modeling and 2D drawing experience and/or other CAD experience (preferred)
  • Communication – demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional work groups including suppliers and associates, both verbally and in writing.  Excellent listening skills.
  • Energy – have the stamina and endurance to maintain a fast pace and continue to produce.
  • Initiative – proactive and takes action without being prompted.
  • Learning agility – continuously seeks new knowledge. Seeks to improve processes and products.
  • Organization & Planning – manage time wisely and effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks.
